ICET, Singapore
Posted at 12:02 PM in Jalan Jalan

Maybe this report is out of date coz ICET event happened in last September, however I try to fulfill my promise to continue the report.

ICET (International Conference on Educational Technology) is an annual conference supported by department of education, Singapore. This year ICET meeting was held at Singapore Expo, Hall 2. Singapore Expo has many halls which are usually used for exhibitions. I don't know how many halls exactly but I'm definitely sure that Singapore Expo is larger than JHCC (Jakarta Hilton Convention Center).

Actually it was prohibited to bring camera inside the seminar. But later, I saw a blond-haired lady taking picture in front of the seminar's stage, so, I did the same…

Talking about the audience, I don't know how or where their enthusiasms came from. Almost all chairs were occupied and the latecomers were standing behind and waiting for the committees raising and pointing a finger as a sign for available chairs.

Realizing those numerous participation had just made me feel uneasy about how goanna be my presentation conducted later after the seminar. If all these people also attend Symposium D1 conference where my presentation took place, well I would be in doomed hehehe.

At last its time for coffee break. The coffee break took place inside the ICET exhibition hall. ICET Exhibition hall is a place for companies to exhibit their products. Many companies took a part in ICET exhibition such as ICELL, Microsoft, etc. While enjoying the meals, a man from ICELL Company stepped closer and opened a conversation. He asked me about my research area and gave me opportunities if I was interested to join ICELL. Fyi, ICELL is one of Singapore's leading information technology solution providers. They build Internet and Wi-Fi infrastructure providing business system mobility for corporate customers and individual users.

To be honest, I don't like the meals. It's tasted a bit odd and very far from my expectation. I prefer have risol, somay or tahu goreng for the meals hehehe.

After done with the meals, I tried to take fresh air outside. Abruptly ambulance came and from opposite direction, one of the committees pushed a woman in a wheelchair hastily. From distance, the woman looks so feeble.

At last seminar was over and now its speakers' time to present the papers. I was scheduled in symposium D1. While waiting for the conference to begin, I met Mrs. Harrini and Mrs. Normaliza. Mrs Harrini is a PhD student in USM and Mrs Normaliza is a lecturer in UPM. They gave me their name cards and in return I got to give my card also.

"What??  You don't bring the card. Let met tell you, a conference is a good opportunity to broaden your network. It's done by sharing your name card. In case one of the audiences is interested to your presentation, they'll know how to contact you. Usually they would ask you to give a speech in their place or something like that. The benefits are that your name will be known and you'll have many bonus (read: money) from it". That was what Mrs Normaliza said.

Ok, lets the presentation begin…

There were other three speakers, 1 from Singapore and 2 from Malaysia.
Moderator, Tinsiri Siribodi from Thailand.
First speaker, Chairmaine Sam from NIE Singapore… damn... nice English!
Second speaker, Mrs. Normaliza from UPM Malaysia… damn… eloquent!
Third speaker, Mr. xxx from Indonesia… damn… ~~@#!#$$*&^!!!
Fourth speaker, Mrs. Harrini from USM Malaysia… damn… fluent!

One of the audiences said my presentation was too technical. They couldn't grasp some parts of my presentation, such as in the interface protocol schema's slide. I think, sure it's hard to understand my paper in short time, considering that most of their research focus is in e-learning, not in web service.

Finally the presentation was over…
It's quite relieving…

So what's the moral of the story?
The truth is you need to go abroad more often MAN! *huehue
